Home.Revolution is an intimate first-person documentary that captures the quiet turbulence between tradition and identity within a Chinese family. Shot in the autumn of 2023 in Nanjing, the film follows director Xiaoqi Yang’s return home after studying in the UK, viewed through a queer lens. What begins as a seemingly trivial dispute over hair length gradually reveals deeper tensions—between generations, gender norms, and the invisible boundaries of love and expectation.
Filmed with a handheld camera in a poetic, voyeuristic style, the documentary explores the intergenerational gaze upon queerness in East Asian society. Through candid moments with a father, mother, grandmother, and cousin, Home.Revolution becomes both personal and political: a soft-spoken yet radical act of queer resistance within the domestic sphere.
At once tender and tense, observational and reflective, the film invites viewers to witness a quiet revolution unfold—not on the streets, but in the living room.
Language: Nanjing dialect (Mandarin), with English subtitles
