FagDyke Cruising

In this dual projection slideshow of collaged imagery,

tells the story of a housefly who transitions into a man in order to cruise gay bars. 

 is appropriated from the short erotica, “The Dildo in my Pocket,” published in Manscape (March 1985). The original story is about a “woman” who “disguises herself” as a man in order to pursue the gay man “she” is in love with. Despite using outdated language and transphobic tropes, the erotica accurately depicts the concerns and fears many trans-masculine people have about passing, takes seriously the gay desires that some trans-masculine people have for men, and portrays the main character as a competent lover, capable of bringing a cis gay man—and, presumably, Manscape’s readers—to orgasm.

Through the use of collaged images of flies onto sections of text from “The Dildo in my Pocket,” the main character is transformed into a housefly who transitions into a man. Through this reworking, the transphobia of trans people as grotesque is reworked into a science-fiction, anti-assimilationist parable. 

 holds onto Mascape’s trans-masculine history, while circumventing heteronormative gender-assignment.

FlyHole 

What happens when two Transdykes get sick of non-transsexual's uninformed representation of their sexualities and their lives? They grab their 8 millimeter home video camera, their last 200 bucks, and come up with an uncompromising in-your-face flick about their shitty relationships with gay men and their unabashed attraction to other transsexual women.

We would like to note that one of the filmmakers, Jeanne B was used as a pseudonym name. Her real name is Mirha-Soleil Ross and has made other film works from the past.  

Gender Troublemakers

 trilogy, Emre Busse conspires with trans porn talent Jamal Phoenix to redeﬁne the desirable body outside of a hegemonic society’s normative restrictions and, because of the speciﬁc relationship that pornographic images have to their audience, fuck with a viewer’s assumed self-assurance as being a coherent sexual subject. 

Porn’s speciﬁcity as a particular genre of representation lies in its almost visceral appeal to the spectator’s body as it elicits immediate somatic response; Richard Dyer speaks of pornography’s ability to “move” the body. The spectator suddenly feels their body, which manifests itself as something distinct over which we do not have full control.
Pornography is not recognized by our intellect alone but, at least partly, perceived through bodily or emotional responses.


Thus, even the bodies of spectators that do not identify as gay might be moved upon encountering the scopophilic richness of Jamal Phoenix’s FTM body in action with other men: the body might move in ways that the mind did not anticipate. As a result of this disordering, or the apparent dissonance between mind and body that one possibly experiences, the genitals ultimately take oﬀ from binary sexed bodies and are merely immersed in a collective pursuit oriented towards the intensiﬁcation of pleasure.

This is an ironic, voyeuristic, sensual and trans-re-vision of that meme and the concept of performativity. hotgirlsummer was one of the most popular memes of summer 2019. That summer I was in Lesbos on an island with a group of creative queer women having a very clichè week of workshops and pilgrimage to our goddess Sappho.
