Deafness may appear to be his disability, but that isn't what makes Austin self-conscious. This is a film at the intersection of Deaf and transgender.


Burdened by female anatomy, he binds his chest every day. While his mother strives to accept his male identity, Austin's community views him as a pioneer. A natural comedian and romantic, Austin's courageous journey is shared in

Austin Unbound – A Deaf Journey of Transgender Heroism

 is a short animated documentary that explores the experience of telling the world that you are autistic when you also identify as LGBTQ+. Queer coming out stories are well documented, but the occurrence of telling friends, family, co-workers and strangers that you are autistic is less explored. Parallels with queer experiences are investigated and a wide range of individuals are interviewed to express the array of feelings and reactions that are encountered.

Mo is an adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Mo spends a lot of time in their brain. Today, a hole started following them.

Hole

Short film by Jaye Kovach explaining the viewer their experience as a disabled queer person who sometimes finds themselves explaining thier circumstances as God seeing them become too powerful, thus, they were nerfed by God. 

Made for the Two-Spirit, Queer and Trans Video Workshop with Theo Jean Cuthand at Queer City Cinema & Performatorium 2018.

Nerfed

Super 8 footage layered with Sharpie marked lines and circles obscuring the image illustrates the story of the filmmaker’s experience with temporary episodes of migraine related blindness and her cousin’s self induced blindness later in life. Paralleling the experience of Blindness with Mental Illness, Cuthand deftly elucidates that any of us could lose any of our abilities at any time.

TJ Cuthand is a filmmaker and performance artist, writer and curator of Plains Cree as well as Scottish and Irish descent. He is credited with coining the term Indigiqueer, for modern Indigenous LGBTQ people. 

Sight

An illustrated film, based on the oral histories of Zander Keig. 

shows the transitional wisdom that Zander has learned while paralyzed, in a mental hospital, a gang, in the military, transitioning from female-to-male and as a social worker.
